Law Ministry Notifies Appointment of Chief Justices to Eight High Courts
The Central Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Chief Justices to eight High Courts on September 5, 2026.
The Central Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Chief Justices to eight High Courts on September 5, 2026.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments via his official X handle, stating that the President made the appointments in exercise of constitutional powers after consulting the Chief Justice of India. The appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred under Articles 217 and 222 of the Constitution of India in consultation with the Chief Justice of India. The appointments follow recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium in two batches during August 2026. The newly appointed Chief Justices are: Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao, Patna High Court, from the Delhi High Court.Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge, Calcutta High Court, from the Bombay High Court.Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, Rajasthan High Court, from the Chhattisgarh High Court.Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, Bombay High Court, from the Allahabad High Court.Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Punjab and Haryana High Court.Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, Chhattisgarh High Court, from the Orissa High Court.Justice Alpesh Yeshwant Kogje, Madhya Pradesh High Court, from the Gujarat High Court.Dr.
Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, from the Rajasthan High Court. The appointments will take effect once the respective judges assume office. By way of another notification Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak has been transferred from the Orissa High Court as a Judge to the Gujarat High Court.
